Ecumenism

Ecumenism reflects the Church's calling to live out the unity of the Body of Christ across denominations, cultures, and nations. Rooted in the prayer of Jesus “that they all be one,” the Diocese of Madras actively engages in ecumenical relationships and partnerships at local, national, and global levels. Through dialogue, shared worship, joint mission, and collaborative service, the Church works with other Christian traditions to witness to Christ's love, promote justice and peace, and respond together to the needs of the world. Ecumenism strengthens Christian fellowship, deepens mutual understanding, and affirms the shared faith that unites the global Church.

Ecumenical Partnerships: WCC · NCCI · CSI

The Diocese of Madras actively participates in the global and national ecumenical movement through its engagement with the World Council of Churches (WCC) and the National Council of Churches in India (NCCI). Through these partnerships, the Diocese collaborates with other churches in shared worship, theological dialogue, mission initiatives, and social action. Programs include joint peace-building efforts, inter-church education and leadership workshops, and community outreach projects addressing the needs of marginalized communities in Chennai and surrounding areas. By working together, the Diocese affirms unity in diversity and demonstrates Christ's love through service, justice, and reconciliation.

Interfaith Dialogue

The CSI, including the Diocese of Madras, values respectful engagement with people of other faiths. Interfaith dialogue is an expression of Christ's love, fostering understanding, peace, and cooperation in a diverse society. Through conversations, joint community initiatives, and educational programs, the Church seeks to build bridges of trust, promote mutual respect, and work together on social and humanitarian issues. By engaging in interfaith dialogue, the Diocese demonstrates its commitment to harmony, reconciliation, and shared responsibility for the common good.

The Diocese of Madras maintains strong bonds with CSI congregations and Christian communities abroad, supporting spiritual life, fellowship, and mission among the diaspora. These links strengthen faith, nurture pastoral care, and provide opportunities for shared worship, cultural exchange, and collaborative mission initiatives. Through regular communication, visits, conferences, and joint projects, the Diocese affirms its global presence and fosters a sense of belonging for those living away from home. By maintaining these faith links, the Church continues to uphold its commitment to nurture discipleship, serve communities, and share Christ's love beyond borders.
